Residents of Dassel and Cokato are proud of their schools, which enjoy astate-wide reputation for excellence.
Older students attend classes in a high school and middle school located midway between the two cities. Younger students study in two elementary buildings, one in Cokato and one in Dassel. The district is certified through North Central Accreditation. Two of the schools, Dassel elementary and the high school, have been selected as National Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Cokato elementary has received state recognition and was completely renovated in 1993.
D-C points with pride to its low class sizes in primary grades, 20 or less; high student achievement; staff development and leadership; modern media-computer centers; and programs to meet the needs of all students. Parents and other community members are actively involved in the schools through curriculum development, parent - teacher conferences, and several volunteer programs.

The district also boasts top-notch extra-curricular programs, coaches, and facilities. Each year, large crowds enjoy school choir and band concerts, plays and exciting sports contests.
There is also an active community education program, which includes Red Cross swimming lessons, summer recreation, summer school, theater productions, and adult education, fitness and enrichment opportunities. A brochure about available activities is published three times a year.
In recent years, the Early Childhood Family Education program has grown rapidly, expanding opportunities for families with preschool children. A children's fair is sponsored every spring and classes are available year around in the Early Childhood Center, located across the road from the high school/middle school complex.
The D-C community has been supportive of educational improvements, passing several referendums to expand facilities and support smaller classes. Many new families say they have been attracted to the area by the excellent schools. The positive learning environment has also enabled the district to attract and retain high-quality staff. |
