Enjoy a delicious chicken dinner on Red Rooster Day in Dassel, home of the largest chicken barbecue in the state. What was originally a one-day event has evolved into a full weekend of activities, but the chicken dinner served on Labor Day is clearly the big drawing card.
Saturday's events start at 10am at Breed's Park with the 7 mile Red Rooster Bike and Rollerblade Ride (helmets requested). At 10am Dassel native Joyce Johnson Agnew will present "Following Food from
Farm to Table" at the Dassel Historical Society's Universal Lab Museum with refreshments following. The Red Rooster Fine Arts Show also will hold it's opening reception at the Universal Lab Museum at 1pm. Then at 3pm an old-fashioned, small-town parade takes place with floats and visiting royalty from communities around Minnesota. A highlight of the day, the Ambassador Coronation, takes place at 7pm in the new Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center.
Following the Coronation is a street dance on Atlantic Ave featuring
Cowboys in Sneakers sponsored by Thirsty's Tavern. Gates open at 8pm and band at 8:30.

Sunday begins with a Community Worship Service at the Evangelical Covenant Church at 10:30am with a lunch available afterward from 11:30-1pm in the church fellowship hall. At 2pm the MiniRod Garden Tractor Pull will again be on Atlantic Ave
(you've never seen these tractors in your garden); also at 2pm the Fine Arts Show continues at the Universal Lab Museum until 5pm. The Friendly Quilt Guild displays quilts at the Covenant Church from 3pm to 7pm. Then at 7pm join the Annual Hymn Sing at the Church of Christ. At dusk journey to the Spring Lake County Park natural amphitheater on the north end of Spring Lake for a Spectacular Fireworks Display!
Monday starts with the 28th Annual 5 mile run and 1 mile run/walk at 8am. Many other activities always take place around the
RED ROOSTER GROUNDS and throughout the day; a Pedal Tractor Pull at 1pm for ages 4 to 11; a Classic Car and Antique Tractor Show 10:30am-3:30pm; concessions (including a climbing wall and inflatables); quilt and art displays continue through the day . . .
At Noon and again at 2pm the
The Prairie Fiddlers provide entertainment in the Baseball Grandstand.
And, of course, its Minnesota's Largest Chicken Bar-B-Que!
